Al Roker Explains His Excited Yells to Obama and Biden

The other day while hosting the Peter Schiff Show I played clips of various news reporters trying desperately to get the President’s attention at the inaugural parade: just a nod or a handshake sent some of them into fits of ecstasy. Pretty cultish, if you ask me (which, of course, they don’t).

Here’s Al Roker’s attempt to account for his behavior, and a transcript of what transpired that day.

Celebrity adulation among a screaming mob — revolting and frightening. It’s a sad history and situation among the human race. Doesn’t matter if it was Lady Gaga or Barrack Obama; Ron Paul or Charles DeGaulle; Bono, Pele or the Pope himself….

I want to ask these folks if they’ve cleaned their basement that’s been a mess for 12 years, or finished writing their sick aunt, or developing their unfinished software? Have they finished their workout at the gym, collected the harvest, created a new dinner recipe? Have they started their new business, helped their teams complete their projects, made some extra cash, learned to play the harp or updated their family photos?
All that stuff is waiting if you can extricate yourself from hoopla-hell.
Hey, I’m all for listening to Jethro Tull and dancing among a crowd in a celebration of life, just as much as sitting on my butt and chuckling over an old Frasier episode, or whooping it up on Miami Beach on New Year’s eve, or applauding a touchdown by Aaron Rogers. But finding fulfillment and karma in the trivial hand-shake of someone else because (s)he’s a People Magazine cover or the demi-god of a starry-eyed NY Times reporter? To be bumping and grinding my way through a slavish crowd, or knocking over the hard-working restaurant waiter because I want to see Alec Baldwin who just ordered a burger?
    No, thanks.

And we wonder why these “more equal than others” pols and celebrities get away with making the draconian and inequitable rules. Why shouldn’t they? The fawning masses are there to follow.
