Egomaniacs

One of these books is not like the others.  Can you figure it out?  (Thanks to Lew Rockwell’s indispensable new Political Theatre blog.)

Unlearn the Propaganda!

  • Matt J.

Ron Paul’s book has the word ‘Liberty’ prominently featured instead of a big, fat picture of himself plastered on the cover.

  • Anonymous

While it can be argued that it’s nice to promote his principles ahead of his image, it’s not the most politically savvy move for Ron Paul to leave his face off the cover. Yes, it’s tacky and transparent – but it’s also effective self-promotion.

Indeed. It obviously displays where Dr. Paul places the ideas of liberty in relation to his ego, that is, the former completely trumps the latter.

  • The Iconologist

With the exception of Dr. Paul’s title, all of the remaining books are self-absorbed confessional statements. Dr. Paul’s book is an exploration of external reality, and is qualitatively different than the sentimental, psycho-babble that seeks to create political audiences by exploring internal, affective realities.

Check out McCain’s pompous title: “Why Courage Matters”.
How’s that for arguing against a strawman?
As in “Yeah, I didn’t support McCain because I don’t think courage matters..”.

  • http://www.delvinshademusic.com Terry McClain

It says a lot about the content. Paul will be the first one to cite Chalmers Johnson, Mises or any number of references for his ideas. I’d be willing to bet the other books were more PR consultant type fares. The truth doesn’t need glossy accompaniment or a face to sell it. It just needs the will of the people to hold it up for weary eyes to see! Thank God for Dr. Paul and friends!

Mitt Romney. . . I don’t think I’d even buy a used car off the guy.

Sarah Palin. . . She couldn’t even articulate why Roe v. Wade was wrong.  And she couldn’t even mention one other case she disagrees with!  Somebody hand her a Kevin Gutzman or a Raoul Beger book!  She could use a few Tom Woods online lectures as well!

Huck. . . I’m just glad he is staying home.

Newt. . . This guy just needs to stay home too.

Bahahahaha! I love it! I used to work at a bookstore, and I’ve been saying for years to never trust someone who puts their face on the cover of their own book.

  • Mayur Thaker

I’m glad you brought this up, Tom! I started a thread on this very observation over at RPF a month ago. There’s a few you forgot to put up:

That’s awesome.  Paul’s book is the only one that doesn’t have his face on the cover.  Also, most of the books feature the author’s name more prominently than the title of their book, save for Gingrich.

I agree about the distinction of Paul’s book, however, publishers, not authors select covers and they select what sell. Ron Paul’s image is not as well known as the others whose images will sell to a particular market. Publishing is a business, driven by the masses. Lots of good stuff never makes it to print.

    And I can’t stand Barack Obama’s book(s).

I kind of feel one should ACCOMPLISH something in life before they write (or have someone else write) a book about themselves.  Getting elected to an office isn’t an accomplishment…

Who the hell BUYS the books of people like McCain, Obama, Huckabee, etc?

one of these is not like the others.

I think I got it! Only 1 is by a black man! Or, only 1 is by a conservative woman! Or how about the best one, only 1 is worth reading.
