Free Staters Favor Nullification

Not exactly a news flash, I know. But here’s a report on last week’s Liberty Forum, put on by the Free State Project, and on the reception my talk on nullification received.

Unlearn the Propaganda!

Question on the “Live free or die” New Hampshire state moto:

Is one really free if the only choices you have are to live free or die? What if I choose not to live free? Then I must die, I suppose. But, then, how many options do I really have? Seems to be just one, sacrosanct, option, unless I choose not to live free, knowing full and well I will die. However, then I do seem to have at least two different options. So, at least I am coerced if I do not want to live free. But, is this the kind of freedom that I want? That I, no matter what, must live freely in the state of New Hampshire because to do anything otherwise will result in my death (ceteris paribus). To be coerced to live freely, assuming I do not want to live free? Yeesh. I want to feel as if I am in charge, that I am FREE to live freely in New Hampshire. But, how can I be responsible for my action to live freely in New Hampshire as I can not do otherwise? Am I still morally responsible for the choice to live freely? Can there ever be a real, cogent libertarian to live in New Hampshire?

Interesting enough though, this conundrum of mine seems like a typical Frankfurt case in which one is not responsible for her actions if and only if she could have done otherwise. Well, it seems I can not do otherwise than to live free in New Hampshire, even if I do not to want to live free. Therefore, I would not be morally responsible for my choice to live freely if I were to do such a thing in New Hampshire.

See, this is a problem for me because I will be moving to New Hampshire shortly and I am very much proturbed by this little proposition that New Hampshire has for one such as me who is looking toward citizenship there in the near future and who happens to be a libertarian. But, I also want to be morally responsible for my libertarianism.

In the same way, I don’t like the “success or bust” idea of entrepeneurship. Surely my choices are not merely to succeed in a business or boobs?
Is not failure always an option?

this is off topic but frankly i cant belive what i just read , a suposed “libertarian” arguing in favior of centralisation and biching that local control by a city is BAD WTF? if we decentralize government just WHO the hell does this clown expext to govern? and this anarco crap has gone quite far enuff people NEED social structure and any socity will have one.

we do not live in an anarco free fire zone , socity rises from “chaos” as in it is a mandelbrot set in wich the golden rules of the human condition cast a pattern across our individual actions that IS the social fabric as such it it is an ORDERED system NOT “anarchy” get over it and lets move on PLZ “gaults gulch” is a delusional myth

gery norths discription of j h kunstler is apt if you are still entraped by the whole left right lets march off the edge rather that have an honest debate IDIOCY!! and yes he is a foul mouth …lol gery n. needs to spend a bit more time out side breathing the same air ‘we the people’!

that said Gery North built a realy “nice” straw man and set it on fire for all to see in this critque and in doing so ignored the facts of our situation in a VERY iresponsable fashon kunstlers point was NOT about pricing as such , it was that the “wallmart” model and the “just in time suply chain” that enables it will fail and in fact IS in the prosess of doing so as we speak ,with the drivers beeing “peak credit” and “peak oil” in that order he then sugests things that individuals who wish to survive that failure MUST consider NOW while movement is still easy or even possable …….. understand , when “just in time” fails it will be across the board so that when the store shelves empty the gass pumps will be empty also (they will in fact empty first) and if you are in the middle of a large city …….your probly going to die and it wont be “clean” ……… and ALL gery north could come up with was that JHK wants people to pay more for there consumption and demonizing locals who might wish to control the shape of the local econimies……….WTF?? this is the best that some one that high in libritarian circles can do? are you all so naive as to think that your acedemic debates will have ANY effect on an out come cooked in to the cake before any of us were even born? give me a break.
