Gas Prices

Not sure what my comment on this is. This will take one minute of your time. It’s funny. It’s weird.

Unlearn the Propaganda!

    You can say THAT again!!

This seems to be more of a weird phenomenon and not intentional. The same thing happens when copy editors generate headlines for newspapers, particularly the dailies, on the same topic. Here, http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/default.asp, you can find the front pages of the daily newspapers in the country, which I did during the gun debate. I came across a dozen newspapers with the same headlines on the same day.

I guess we all assume each news station is writing it’s own “scripts” but I suppose it makes sense that they copy things from other sources. Still, it’s funny.

But I don’t see any reason for it to be creepy.

Actually, they’re all getting their talking points from AP or the like. Sounds harmless; they can save on scarce resources and get lots of “fill” stories for their “newscast” (sic).
The creepy thing is that they DON’T provide independent journalism outside the big news services. That means ALL stories above the kitty in the tree variety are generated by one of only a few big sources. Now THAT makes it creepy.
Oh, and that makes Ben Swann, who’s on a local affiliate in Cincinnati, last I checked, an even BIGGER hero!

    link is gone

You nailed it and it goes back decades, or longer. Reading news in college (and now we’re talking ancient history), we’d subscribe to the AP wire. Oftentimes there was an expectation by the director that we “reporters” would rewrite the copy into something more stylisitically conversational/articulate/original, but folks are lazy.
Now as to those rising gas prices, damn that Bush! He’s been gone for nigh on five years and he’s still screwing us over!

Here is another piece of data for you. Same thing, different topic:

You don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the rise.
