I Knew Dudley Moore Played the Piano, But…

…I just discovered this.

Any musician that is fluent in jazz is cool in my book.

Dud, Hugh Laurie, the Pythons, etc etc. Those English comedians have got chops. I guess that’s what you get with a serious stage tradition.

I was floored when I saw this video of Sammy Davis, Jr. — he had more talent than the rest of the Rat Pack combined.

    Great! Thanks!

His classical efforts and pianistic technique were also stellar. He really was something.

A friend of mine (and former Navy shipmate) is good friends with Allan’s daughter, he went to school with her. I’ve met her a few times, but never her father. I remember the first time that her and I met, my friend– who knows that I am almost like a music encyclopedia– asked me if I knew of her father. She was very attractive and friendly, so I could have lied. Instead, I sucked up the embarrassment.

Louise? There was a picture of her on AH’s website recently. She just had a son.

I think Holdsworth is one of the most important artists of the 20th century & present, and is still largely unknown or misunderstood. He’s had a big impact on the prog-metal scene, a form of music that I strongly dislike.
    Oh, and …piano

Yep, that’s her. She looks a bit different, but then it has been almost 10 years. Obviously, after I met her I did look into Allan and was highly impressed. It isn’t necessarily my style, but as a musician I can respect and appreciate just about any style of music so long as it is creative and interesting.

Another daughter of a famous guitarist that I’ve made acquaintance is Jerry Donahue’s daughter Kristina. I was auditioning for the lead guitarist spot in a band that she was putting together (I really just wanted a chance to jam with her dad). Unfortunately I ended up getting an offer from a more established group and turned her down, only to be turned down myself from that other group just before a tour (their old guitarist decided to come back). I was not happy with how that all turned out.
