Me in Spain (Video)

This very short video, under three minutes long, was made during my various activities in Madrid last June, when I was a guest of the Fundacion Rafael del Pino.

You realize that any notion that Christianity had anything to do with liberty will be viciously attacked by some atheists? I get this all the time.

  • http://www.TomWoods.com Tom Woods

Luckily, I know more about the history of natural rights theories than they do.

  • Luke Sunderland

As a Catholic myself, I can say that this is very true. I’ve lost count of the number of atheists, or even those only mildly annoyed with religion, who literally start to foam at the mouth when I mention things like how Galileo couldn’t actually prove his theories (and so the church was actually more scientific than him) or how it was the church that basically kept western civilization alive during the Middle Ages. It’s almost as bad as when I tell an environmentalist that John D. Rockefeller saved the whales by making kerosene more affordable than whale oil.

  • Jeremy

I have no doubt of that. :)

Ever thought about writing a book or doing a lecture on natural rights theories and Christianity?

  • Luke Sunderland

He actually did, years ago, during his thirteen part series for EWTN based on “How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization.” All thirteen parts are available on YouTube. Just search for “The Catholic Church- Builder of Civilization, Episode 10: Concept of Rights & Law”

  • Jeremy

    Cool, thanks Luke.

Why DID you learn all that history?
What possesses a man to accumulate such knowledge – especially before becoming an Austrian Economist?
