More Presidential Idolatry on the Way

Thanks to the forthcoming Lincoln movie. This article at Slate, which (naturally) takes the establishment line, quotes Tom DiLorenzo — author of The Real Lincoln — without using the Marxoid neologism “neo-Confederate,” so that’s a start. And here’s Kevin Gutzman’s take on the mythical Lincoln American kids are taught to revere.

    I knew by the time I was 20 years old or so – by simply observing modern-day politics, that what I had been propagandized in school with regard to Lincoln, was ‘off’ to say the least. As Tom has stated before, and as anyone with a modicum of suspicion of State power can attest, there is a Reason why both modern-day Democrats AND Republicans hold Lincoln essentially above all other presidents: Because he personified Power – and the power of the State to rule over You.

    And the dynamic of Lincoln and his devotees dovetails quite nicely with an axiom that that I taught my son at an early age:
