New Off-Topic Department

That’s it; I’ve decided I’m sharing an interesting song or two every week.

I love the raw sound of early Genesis, with Peter Gabriel at the helm. Here’s Can-Utility and the Coastliners (1972):

Unlearn the Propaganda!

  • John Robb

Good tune. It certainly has that sound you dig so much. Forty year old, heavily composed art rock, Yes, Jethro Tull, I like it too. If you post two a week from now on, I wonder how long it will take you to post Moody Blues, Traffic, and Rush. [That's not a request! :D ] Have fun with it. I’ll happily listen to whatever you post. Here are two I enjoy that I’ve posted here before hoping others might enjoy. Liberty songs…

Always just a touch too much Tony Banks, not enough Steve Hackett

  • Matthew Bernemann

Love it! One of my favorites. Instead of “more cowbell”, I say let’s start a new meme — “more mellotron”.

    Right!

  • Erik O

ah, early Genesis. atmospheric and pastoral with a bite. love it. Great taste Tom.

  • uk6strings

Great stuff. Gotta ove the Collins-lead Genesis though too – ‘Wind and Wuthering’ is one of the greatest albums of the 70s in my opinion.

  • Matt

Austrian econ and Prog Rock all rolled into one website??? Why go anywhere else. Genesis is the best all time prog rock band ever. There is a band that is doing the Lamb lies down on broadway tour right now “Musical Box” I highly recommend you see them.

I think that I am now identifying a theme in your musical tastes. You foremost like a story, but with the accompaniment of partially eclectic instrumentation. I would suppose that you’re also a fan of Chrisian Rock. I don’t mean that as a slight– myself not being a Christian– it is just my observational reasoning in action.

Sorry, Joe, but I find Christian rock emasculating and awful.

  • Anonymous

Well, thank goodness for that. However, are you more storyline orientated when it comes to music?

  • Richard Schwarz

But he forced a smile even though his hopes lay dashed where offerings fell….WHERE THEY FELL!!!!

I had a feeling Richard Schwarz would wind up here eventually!
