    Do you mean that the FED is buying all the toxic junk on the books of big banks and putting the tax payer on the hook for all this?

    you get the impression that they are going to regret ever numbering these rounds of quantitative easing!

    Taxpayers are on the hook insofar as the banks selling mortgage backed securities to the Fed use the money to buy Treasury securities sold simultaneously by the Congress. In this scenario, the banks simply swap their junk bonds for entitlement to tax revenue, and since the Congress spends the money on nothing of lasting value, taxpayers are no richer for it.
