The Establishment’s Job

It’s the job of the Establishment to confine the range of debate within narrow limits, to designate certain opinions as acceptable and others by implication as “extreme,” and to trick the public into thinking every presidential election — invariably between Establishment Candidate A and Establishment Candidate B — is the “most important of our lifetimes,” etc., when in fact the basic contours of the regime remain the same no matter what.

Unlearn the Propaganda!

While we’re talking about the establishment forcing us to decide because we “have a choice”, have this unintentionally hilarious segment from GB on Monday.

Try telling this to the folks who swear one more Obama term will doom us forever. I feel our best bet is Obama because he upsets the right sheep so much they may continue to learn and perhaps enough about true freedom to see that neither the conventional right nor left offer it. Since Romney satisfies them a win by him puts the sheep back to sleep. Liberty equals free markets equals minimum government equals constitution. Yay cell phones.

You’re making it sound too conscious and concerted an effort. Now, I’m not saying you’re totally wrong, but I think you’re giving the establishment too much credit. I consider some of the people at the top to be near sociopaths. Imagine the level of megalomaniacal tendencies a few of these people have. How many of them agree, plan, and work together well on any remote level? I have trouble seeing everything that goes on as wholly deliberate. I think it’s partly nefarious ‘direction,’ and equally the result of herd behavior.

It doesn’t have to involve conscious planning. However they accomplish their goal, accomplish it they do.
