The Neocons and the New York Times vs. Me

Here I speak to an Italian audience (in English) about my 2004 book The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History, which was recently translated into Italian. (And here’s the page the video refers to.)

By the way, it takes YouTube forever to change its proposed thumbnail for a video. Believe me, I’m on it.

Unlearn the Propaganda!

  • Laura

Would like to have a copy of that book.

  • Zach

LMAO, youtube got you good this time. You look like you are moving in for a kiss.

Oh wow; this thumbnail is worse. It looks like you’re about to cry. The first thumbnail was “pro” compared to this one.

  • Jeremy

Heh, yeah I must admit to thinking the same thing.

You’re getting a little line noise on your audio signal.

Make sure all RF emitting devices are outside of the room (esp. cellphones, wifi, or other wireless devices), ensure you have fresh batteries in your lapel mic, ensure that you aren’t using fluorescent lighting (this is one of the biggest culprits for line noise), make sure that your camera is using a dedicated power source (i.e. that it’s not sharing a power source with other devices), make sure that your power source is grounded (though, your camera probably uses a two-pronged wall wart) , make sure all connections are secure (sometimes wiggling or twisting the connector helps to make a better connection because it tends to clean the connectors by the use of friction), etc. Merely using the adapter shouldn’t induce any noise, so something else is causing it.

Interestingly, Bob is also having noise troubles, but his problems are far different than yours (I think his battery is dying on his lapel mic, thus raising the signal to noise ratio). His Liberty Classroom plug sounded fine, but the one after that had all sorts of noise; the noise he is getting isn’t line noise.

Your problem sounds more like RF interference or a power source problem, because it is carried on the primary signal rather than being overlaid over the entire channel, so it only makes noise when you speak (when an electronic signal is traveling through the microphone wire this is the prime time for the line to pick up interference from outside sources– this is due to electo-magnetic induction, but can also be caused by grounding problems). Unfortunately, most consumer-level lapel mic wires aren’t very well shielded, so they are very sensitive to picking up noise when a signal is running through them.

Could be the battery. Have not brought the adapter to the office yet.
