Why I Changed My Mind

At “An Evening with Tom Woods,” an event at this year’s Mises University program, I talked about how I went from being a boring, middle-of-the-road GOP guy to a defender of a free and humane society.  The students seemed to like it.

Unlearn the Propaganda!

What an interesting, instructive, goofy, encouraging, goosebump-inducing speech! Thanks for sharing; so will I.

And I liked it too. My generation is so lucky to have access to the great Internet. It truly is revolutionary!

Tom, around 06:26 you mention speaking on ‘Economic cycles before the fed’. Is there a video for that? Would love to see it as that’s my weak spot when arguing with Fed worshippers.

That video should go up soon.  In the meantime, check out http://www.tomwoods.com/panics (the resource page I put together to accompany that lecture).

Any chance I can get an MP3 of this so I can burn this to a CD?  This is exactly the sort of thing I’ve been looking for to play for my leftist grandparents!

Thank you so much Dr. Woods!

I enjoyed the talk very much. I really appreciated the part about communism.
Some time ago I translated – for the fun of it – a review of The Lord of The Rings book that is claimed to have appeared in The Red Justice Daily in Czechoslovakia in 1977. Even though it is not certain that it really was in the papers I thought you might find it amusing what the orwellian-type propaganda could come up with.

SOCIALISM CANNOT BE DESTROYED BY THE RING

    This is yet another
attack against the socialist establishment. The evil empire that belches
ash and smoke is transparently located in the east; the working class,
united in the sweat of its brow building the heavy industry, is depicted as hideous and evil orcs. It is evident that a sonny from a bourgeois
family can’t see anything beautiful and uplifting on hard work. The
inhabitants of the West – a land abundant with milk and honey – the
elves (aka the aristocrats), humans (bourgeoisie) and hobbits
(landlords) live, on the other hand, in wealth and abundance (without
ever being explained where they got their wealth from) and they are
concerned with but one thing – “the threat” from the East. “The Good
Forces” are represented by a collection of representatives from these
reactionary circles who have never known a day of hard work. Their
leader, Gandalf, is a propagator of this retrograde and perverse
ideology, which helps him keep the population in ignorance and fear of
progress. No wonder that Saruman, the defender of the oppressed and a
friend of progress, is pronounced a traitor and his abode is destroyed
by a gang of reactionary fanatics. Later, when he spreads socialism in
the Shire, he is taken captive and without due process punished by the
hobbits who are encouraged and financed by the capitalist evil-power
Gondor.Fortunately, socialism cannot be destroyed by tossing a relic, be
it the most precious one, into the fire. Hold on, Mordor, surrounded by
    fanatic reactionary enemies, hold on!

    Thank you… much appreciated!

Hey Tom.  Do you realize what most of us think vaporizers are meant for?
