As I mentioned on the program, Skype is suddenly giving me an issue. Most of the time (though not all the time; it didn’t happen in my interview with Ben Powell, and it doesn’t happen with my wife) I am getting a whooshing hiss sound when I speak. As soon as the guest speaks, it’s gone.
I can usually get rid of the hiss after the fact, but (1) this hiss can be a tough nut to crack sometimes; (2) removing it is extra work for me; and (3) all noise removal degrades the sound quality somewhat.
Here’s a file in which you can hear a sample of what I’m talking about. It’s from my program with Ben O’Neill. In the actual program you didn’t hear this hiss because I removed it. But here’s what this snippet sounded like before I fixed it. It begins with O’Neill speaking: no hiss. Then I speak, and the hiss builds as I speak. Then he speaks again and it’s completely gone.
Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks!
